How to Play

The Random Team Generator is a simple utility that takes a list of names and splits them into fair, randomly assigned teams. Start by pasting or typing your list of names into the box on the left - you can separate names with line breaks or commas, which makes it easy to copy a list from a spreadsheet, a chat or a signup form. The tool automatically counts how many names it detects so you can confirm everyone is included.

Next, choose how many teams you want using the plus and minus buttons. When you tap Generate Teams, the tool shuffles all the names using a fair random algorithm and deals them out one at a time across the chosen number of teams, so the team sizes stay as even as possible. The results appear instantly on the right, colour-coded by team. Use the Copy button to grab the full list and paste it into a message, document or scoreboard. Tap Generate again to reshuffle for a fresh split.

Captain Pick: After generating teams, let each team captain pick one bonus member in a snake draft for extra strategy.

Balanced Sizes: For uneven counts, the tool naturally gives some teams one extra player - agree beforehand whether that is acceptable or adjust the total.
